The Fellas

Let me tell you about "The Fellas".  The Fellas are Kaitlin's best friends for the past two years.  While occasionally there are other girls that hang out with them, mostly it's just the guys and her.  Kaitlin likes it this way because there is much less drama when all your friends are boys.

The reason I'm writing about this is because there is something unique about this group of friends.  They are all Mormons, and five of these six 18 year olds have decided to serve two year missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints.   While other boys their age are thinking about college, partying and girls, these boys are reading scriptures, talking about Jesus, going to the temple and talking about which suits and ties are the best. 

I think it's been both wonderful and difficult for Kaitlin. Wonderful because it's amazing to be with a group of friends who are focused on all the right things and making such good choices, but difficult because they are all leaving, and Kaitlin is being left behind. Kaitlin is excited to serve a mission as well, but girls are not allowed to go until they are 19.  On the bright side, girls only serve for 18 months, so there will only be a six month overlap until they are all home and together again.

From left to right here are the guys, where they are going on their missions and (when they leave): Wesley, New Mexico (left last week); Taft, Mexico (leaves in 2 weeks); Mckai (the one with the beard), Mexico (leaves in two weeks); Ben, Brazil (leaves on Tuesday); Noah, Thailand (leaves in 4 weeks); Taylor, going to Snow College with Kaitlin.
