Arrow of Light


Jared got his Arrow of Light this last week. It is the highest rank in Cub Scouting, and Jared did above and beyond what was required to earn the award.  The cub master's son was also earning the award that night and so she and I worked together to put on a really big and fun awards ceremony with an Indiana Jones theme. She had a script from a blog that nether of us were very happy with so I rewrote and shortened it, and then we worked together on putting on challenges that the boys had to face, including swinging on a rope, walking a balance beam and running while getting shot at with q-tips. The evening was a big success and all the boys seemed to have a really good time.  I can't say that Jared loves cub scouts, but he has always been willing to attend all the meetings and do everything that has been asked of him.  He will become a Boy Scout and move into the Ninja Patrol in January.  It is a little sad for him and for me because I have been Jared's scout leader for almost all of his three years in scouting.



Scholarships

It's that time of life when Kaitlin has to start making some decisions about where she wants to go to college.  We went to a college night this week and got some information about schools and scholarships and financing.   She and Chuck went to an open house for Snow College, a community college about 2 hours away.  Kaitlin was able to sit down with a counselor there and walked away with a full tuition academic scholarship.  She has several friends who are also interested in attending and might want to room together.    We still need to make a visit to the school but Kaitlin is very confident that that is what she wants to do.  With all her AP credits there is a chance she could have her associates degree in only one year.   She also will qualify for the state scholarship, so that will be more money to help her along.  Kaitlin has worked very very hard in school and I am happy to see all that hard work paying off for her.



Reflections

The same day as the Arrow of Light, I was in charge of putting on the elementary school's Reflections awards pizza party and ceremony.  Half of the Reflections board petered out so it was just me and two other ladies putting on the whole thing for 25 kids and parents.   We pulled the kids out of class and they got a pizza party with drinks and dessert and then a little ceremony where they got certificates and ribbons and everyone clapped for them.  Thankfully, when I was short handed, a couple of mom's jumped in to help and the whole thing came off very well.

Jared entered three categories this year and won in Film.  He did another stop action lego film and I'll try posting it below.  The theme was "Believe, Dream, Inspire".  For the grandmas, since you get this blog via email, you'll have to visit the web page to watch the video.
