Jared's BaptismOur youngest child, Jared, was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday. He was nervous but excited. He was most worried about doing something wrong and having to be baptized more than once. But in the end the baptism was perfect. After the baptism Jared seemed very happy and relieved. Afterwords, we had a family brunch. Our house was full of aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins. It was a wonderful morning.
While I have mixed emotions about my youngest being baptized, I mostly feel proud. He is a great young man that is only staring to discover what he can become.A Visit from Barnums
Grandma and Grandpa Barnum, Aunt Denise and Laura and Cousin Suzanne came all the way from Minnesota and North Dakota to be with Jared on his special day. We had a great visit with them. The kids had a great time coloring, watching movies and playing with the bunny with Aunt Laura. On the afternoon of Jared's baptism we all went bowling together. We had the most fun learning to bowl and cheering (and jeering) one another. Half way though our games all the lights turned off and the black lights, lasers and disco balls started up for some sort of psychedelic bowling. We bowled while dancing in the isles. On Sunday, the Barnum crew went down to Salt Lake City to see the Mormon Tabernacle choir broadcast live. Grandma Barnum especially loves watching the choir and evidently made some new friends while waiting for the broadcast to begin. Sunday afternoon we all rested and enjoyed some traditional Utah foods: Hawaiian Haystacks, green jello and fries and fry sauce. We are so glad the Barnums could come and spend that fun weekend with us.
A New Cub ScoutJared started Cub Scouts this past week. He was excited to see his friends there and had a great time. Thanks to Aunt Donna who gave Jared a new Wolf book and a belt (Jared was excited to get something new, as his uniform is a Chaz hand-me-down). Chuck has been working with him and he is all ready to get his Bobcat at the end of the month. I'm actually kind of excited to get Jared going in Scouts. Now that I've been through the process I know what to do to help him be successful.

He looks great in his uniform. I am so excited for him to be in scouts too. By the way, there is a bowling belt loop - ask someone about it, or get online to see the requirements - it's not hard to earn.
Wait a second...isn't this the kid that was in kindergarten during our time together in the primary presidency? My, how time flies! Congratulations on such an important step!
