Happy Birthday, Ruth!
Ruth turned 14 this week. This is a significant birthday in our church because that means that Ruth moves on to the older girls youth group, and also that she can go to the monthly church dances. Ruth is excited to move up to the new group but doesn't seem so excited about the dances, even though Kaitlin has offered to go with her. Ruth didn't want much for her birthday. One thing she did want was a rainbow cake that she had seen on the internet. Together we made the cake, and then Ruth did all the decorating. It turned out pretty cool. Ruth also got her favorite dinner, sweet shredded pork.

Her big gift this year was a pen tablet that connects to the computer. She likes working on computer animation and art, and this new tool will help with that. Ruth also spends a lot of time playing guitar and ukulele and singing. She'll be auditioning for the school talent show next week.
Jared Off Track
Jared is off track and because of cold weather, we've spent this whole week playing video games together. We play a lot of Minecraft and also Wizards101. We have our own family server of Minecraft if any of you want to come play with us.
Also this week, Jared and I went on a three mile hike with the Webelos Scouts. It was supposed to be a rainy day, but we decided to go anyway. What I didn't expect was snow. It was pretty brisk, but the boys were all in good spirits. We also came across a herd of cattle along the path. I told the boys just to walk quickly and quietly by, but instead my youngest scout went running towards them, shouting and waving his arms in the air. Cattle can move pretty quickly. Scouting can be an adventure.
